What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone made of silicon carbide. It is very hard (9.25 on the Mohs scale) and naturally brilliant, with lots of sparkle, which makes it an affordable alternative to diamond. Moissanite is its own gemstone, not a diamond.
